Removals in Bognor Regis: Parking, Costs and the 10 Working Days You Need

Removals in Bognor Regis are less about the miles than about the kerb. Most of the town's Victorian and Edwardian terraces have no driveway, the seafront roads are pay and display, and the streets around the town centre sit inside a Controlled Parking Zone. Getting a lorry within twenty metres of the front door is the job. Here is what that costs in Arun district, what the council actually requires, and the one rule that catches nearly every mover.

The parking rule most movers get wrong

There are two different things you can buy from Arun District Council, and they do opposite jobs.

A bay suspension takes a parking bay out of use. Arun's guidance is explicit that once a bay is suspended no vehicle is permitted to park in it, and that this includes removal vehicles. A suspension is for keeping a space empty, for scaffolding, a skip, a crane or safe access; it is not a reserved space for your lorry.

A dispensation is the one that lets a vehicle park where it otherwise could not. Arun issues these as temporary permits for tradespeople parking commercial vehicles on restricted roads while working at a nearby property, and removals is one of the listed categories alongside building works, glazing, site access, large deliveries and tree surgery.

And there is a third possibility that costs nothing at all. Arun states that sign-written removal vehicles are allowed to park where there are certain restrictions without penalty, and that this does not apply to any other type of vehicle. If your removal firm runs liveried lorries, you may need no paperwork. If you have hired an unmarked Luton and are doing it yourself, you have none of that protection.

What Arun charges, and what changes on 1 October 2026

The fees are going up at the start of October, so a move booked for the autumn should be priced on the new numbers.

Bay suspensions

One bay suspension covers the length of two bays, a maximum of 10 metres or two normal car lengths. Yellow lines cannot be suspended at all. Anything already paid is non-refundable if you finish early or cancel.

Dispensations

The town centre pay and display streets are named on the council's list and include Belmont Street, Clarence Road, Gloucester Road, Lennox Street, London Road, Lyon Street, Queensway, Sudley Road, Walton Road and Waterloo Square.

The timetable that actually binds you

Arun requires a minimum of 10 working days' notice for a bay suspension. Late applications for emergency works will be considered but are not guaranteed, and they have to be in before noon on a weekday. Two working weeks is therefore the earliest realistic lead time, and if you are exchanging and completing in the same week you will not get one.

Amendments and extensions need a fresh application with three days' notice, plus an administration charge on top of the daily charge. If your completion date slips, that is a second form and a second fee, which is one more reason to hold off on booking the suspension until the date is firm. Suspension applications now go through MiPermit rather than a paper form, and the council asks for a map to be uploaded with the application.

Streets where a big lorry will struggle

Three patterns cause trouble in Bognor Regis and the villages around it.

The seafront. The Esplanade and Marine Drive West are pay and display, and Marine Drive West has a separate April to September dispensation rate, so a summer move on that stretch is priced differently from a January one.

The Controlled Parking Zone. Permit bays fill early. A dispensation is cheaper here than on the town centre pay and display streets, but it still has to be applied for, and the vehicle registration is fixed on the permit, so a last-minute change of lorry invalidates it.

The terraces off the High Street and Sudley Road. Narrow, parked both sides, and often with no turning room for an 18-tonne vehicle. Any decent firm will send a surveyor or ask for a video of the street before quoting; if a company quotes over the phone without seeing the access, expect a shuttle charge on the day.
